Family Fun, Fishing and Dinner!!

Maria catches best looker of the day!

Maria catches best looker of the day!

Wow – What a great afternoon on the water with UFO Adventures Light-Tackle Fishing Charter!  My Family was looking for something fun to do on the water but didn’t want to commit a whole day to the adventure so they hooked up (pun intended) with  UFO Adventures Light-Tackle Fishing Charter for an awesome afternoon!  Unlike the traditional fishing charters UFO operates in the calm waters close to shore and has morning and afternoon departures which makes it ideal for Families with children ages 3 and up.  It’s also great for serious Fishermen who want to land Maui’s inshore game fish.  My sister Maria landed an almost neon blue and green reef fish but it had to be returned to the water but at least the proof is in the picture that she had a catch.

Carla nabs a Nabeta

Next my mom Carla pulled in a small one which turned out to be a very tasty fish called a Nabeta.  The boats fishing legend and super helpful Mate, Johnny Pender told them that it’s considered a delicacy which is cooked whole and it gets its sweet flavor from it’s diet of crab and other tasty treats.  Finally, my cousin Kevin pulled in the Big One a 3lb Uku which is a Hawaiian grey snapper!  If you’ve ever been out to a restaurant here on Maui you know how much a filet of fresh caught snapper costs and it was ours for Free because on UFO fishing charters you get to keep your catch and they’ll even get it ready to cook for you!maui locals guide, ufo fishing

Oh I forgot to mention, it wasn’t only a fishing charter it turned out to be an Awesome Whale Watch as well!  If this sounds like the type of Local Fun you would like to have on your visit to Maui.  Give as a call at Maui Locals Guide and we’ll set you up with a truly unique experience!

Whales, Reggae and Rainbows!

The Rainbow watching Marty Dread Rocking the Cruise

The Rainbow watching Marty Dread Rocking the Cruise

There are few things more amazing then being out in the beautiful blue pacific ocean off the coast of Maui and watching the humpback whales put on a show.  Does it get any better?  Sure it Does!  Just add a few Rainbows and local recording star Marty Dread cranking out classic reggae, island rhythms and rock favorites.  While we’re at it let’s add hot and cold pupus (appetizers) served with local microbrews, tropical cocktails, wine, juices and sodas.  This was the scene last week when we went on the  Island Rhythms Cocktail Cruise.  Our group consisted of kids from 6yrs old to adults in there 40’s but there were grandparents and toddlers as well all dancing to island rhythms on the open air dance floor.

Sunset over Lana’i

On our cruise we had spinner dolphins surfing along side the 65 foot, ultra smooth, eco-friendly catamaran while we made our way out to see the  humpback whales breaching for our entertainment.  The 2 hour trip which departed at 5:30 and ended with a spectacular sunset went by way too fast.  Everyone on board left with huge smiles and an experience of a lifetime.  So if you’re wondering what type of cruise to pick why not combine a whale watch with sunset cruise and through in some live island rhythms to have your all in one ocean adventure!  Maui Locals Guide can help you book this cruise to enjoy a truly unique ocean experience.  Give us a call now and ask about our special web discount pricing.

SPRING BREAK MAUI STYLE

Napili Bay Maui Beaches

Napili Bay

Aloha  – Here on Maui we’re wrapping up our Spring Break week.  Wondering what Locals do on Spring Break?  Most of us stay right here on Island and enjoy a Stay-cation.  It’s our chance to go to one of our favorite spots and hang out with family and friends.  One of my absolute favorite places to go is Napili Bay, it’s a pristine crescent shaped sandy beach located about 20 minutes north of Lahaina on the west side of Maui.  What makes Napili Bay so special is it’s not overdeveloped with large hotels, stores or visited by tour buses and has retained its natural beauty.   The bay is also protected by a submerged reef which keeps the water calm most of the year.  Maui Beaches Seahouse RestaurantCombine that with a mild shore break, sloping sandy bottom and you have an ideal place for the kids to enjoy Boogie Boarding or bodysurfing.  It’s also a great place to take out a standup paddleboard and visit with the Hawaiian green sea turtles that frequent the Bay.   After a full day on the beach and you’re looking for something to eat and a refreshing island beverage, head over to the Sea House Restaurant on the north end of the bay.  It has a lanai with umbrella covered tables and you can cruise on up in your swim gear and get some mid-day grinds.

Now Here Is Your Maui Locals Guide TIP:

Locals know, the best time to go is during happy hour which starts at 2pm and ends at 5pm.  However, if you want a seat on the lanai it’s best to kick off the sand and head on up by 2:30.  The happy hour menu is pretty big and includes discounted beer, wine and mixed drinks. One of my favorite Pupu’s is the Poke nachos.  Also, it does get pretty busy and service can be well, on Island Time so remember you’re on vacation, sit back, relax and take in the awesomeness of Napili Bay.   If you started your day at the bay late and missed happy hour definitely stay for the sunset, it’s one of the best spots on the island to watch the ball drop and enjoy a Pau Hana!
